The sum total of my work life...
...fits in five packing boxes. And that's if you count the box containing my four boxes of tea, my light-up jack-o-lantern, my mini Christmas tree (I'm a sucker for holiday decorating!) and the small container of pictures I display to make cubicle life a little more bearable.
At my last cubicle, I had decided to make it as "positive" a place as possible. While I'm not exactly the type to jump on trends like "office feng shui", I thought that organizing my workspace so that I'd feel more good, positive energy wasn't a bad idea.
This next move, all I'm striving for is less drain from the fluorescent lights. (Would that I could find a still shot from "Joe Vs. the Volcano to insert, here.)

Maybe you could put up a tent kind of thing over your cubicle and hang paper lanterns in it for better lighting. Mood lighting even.
Alternately if you can have plants how about an office plant that will grow in long draping strands and you can create the canopy that way. The plants will love the evil light and you are sheltered. This would take lots of little pots hanging all round your cubicle and then stretching the plants out etc. but in the long run it would look so cool!
Of course office policy will most likely not let you do either. Good luck making your new space more you.
Wow! I was able to fit nine years' worth of stuff into one Xerox box.
Where to now?
My only personal effects I took with me from my old job were a desk lamp and a radio/CD player. Thankfully, I had an office where I could turn off those dreadful lights and put on my desk lamp. But I am not sure if they'd appreciate you turning off all the lights! ;-) I agree with the holiday stuff, though. It helps the "mood". Maybe some beads to drape across the entrance of your new cube?? And some inscense?
We're relocating our offices tomorrow. My five boxes aren't personal effects, that's why it's more than one box. File drawers of stuff I probably don't need, really.
Incense and things draped across the cube door are *definitely* not company policy. And Cat, I have terrible luck with plants.
Oh well. :)
