Signs

The car parked next to me in the garage this morning had one of those window shades you put on the back seat to keep the sun out of your child's eyes. It had no cute little pictures like so many that I've seen, it simply read "Babies R Us".

I started thinking about that name, and my immediate thought was of "us" vs. "them". "Babies R us, but aren't for you though. " I wonder what kind of weird stares I'd get if I put a sign on my car that said that??

Plus it's ungrammatical. I hate that.

But me think if message are understood it ok to say stuff how we like it. Right? It makes kids feel ok with being illiterate and are good for self-esteem and might even save the society from mass murderers so let's just dumb it down!!

Sorry - I lost my full stops on the way here;)

Actually, Jill, 'Babies R Us' is an offshoot of 'Toys R Us,' a longtime U.S. toy store. The 'R' is also flipped for your dyslexic pleasure.

But let's see, it wouldn't be contextually correct to say babies are we, literally, "we are babies" because that's not their point. So how would we say it??

sorry, a little red wine makes me grammatically inept. I'll stop trying to think about it now.
